Why an Indian portfolio link is its own product category.

We are publishing the internal notes we use to plan FolioSpace. The goal: turn the lived behaviour of Indian professionals — WhatsApp-first sharing, UPI-native payments, phone-first preview — into a portfolio product that is actually used.

Why Indian professionals still don’t have a portfolio link

Across hundreds of cold intros on LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and placement seasons, the same gap keeps showing up: the person has the work, but the link in their bio is dead, generic, or shared as a screenshot of a PDF.

Three patterns dominate: (1) a LinkedIn URL is treated as a portfolio even when the headline is out of date; (2) a Notion page or Google Doc is shared as a temporary portfolio and never updated; (3) a website builder was started, abandoned at the domain step, and the link in the bio is the project placeholder.

  • Dead links. LinkedIn URLs that go to a profile photo with a 2018 headline and no work samples.
  • PDF-as-portfolio. A one-page resume shared as a screenshot. Cannot be updated, cannot be linked, cannot be searched.
  • Builder abandoned at the domain step. Squarespace / Wix / WordPress projects with a custom domain never connected. The bio link still goes to the builder subdomain.
  • Notion graveyard. Notion pages shared once for a placement season, then the page is locked behind a Notion account or moved.

What an Indian portfolio actually needs to do

Folio at one URL, viewable on a phone without an app, shareable on WhatsApp with a real preview, and editable from the same phone.

  • Phone-first preview. Open Graph metadata must render at WhatsApp card size. Default site previews at full-width look broken on a 360px screen.
  • Slug, not subdomain. foliospace.in/<name> reads better than a custom domain for first-touch intros.
  • UPI-native billing. INR pricing via UPI AutoPay, no card-required for the free tier, and no foreign-currency surcharge for the paid tier.
  • Printable QR. A QR that encodes the folio URL — printed on a counter, a takeaway box, or a placement form.

How FolioSpace measures ‘good’

We publish the operational numbers on /stats. We do not publish vanity numbers like aggregate review counts, because we cannot fabricate them honestly.

  • Time to first folio. Median time between signup and first publish. Target: under 15 minutes.
  • Share events per folio. How many WhatsApp / LinkedIn / QR shares a typical folio generates in its first 30 days.
  • Uptime + TTFB. Render free tier cold starts do not count as outages. We publish both numbers.
“If we cannot measure it, we do not promise it.”— Operating principle, FolioSpace
